What can a citation list tell you?
A useful source review begins with a specific answer and a specific claim. Save the question and response before browsing its links. Otherwise, a page updated after the answer can make the record appear more current than the evidence the answer actually displayed. Record the retrieval date of your page review separately from the answer date, and note redirects, unavailable pages and paywalls.
Work claim by claim. An answer might say a product has a feature, is available in a country and is cheaper than another product. Those are three assertions, even when they share one citation. Identify the supporting passage for each. If the page only confirms availability, do not mark the feature and price as supported.
Research on citation verifiability distinguishes citation presence from support for the associated statement.
How do you capture the evidence in Rankfor?
Open a project and select Answer Trail. Choose One model, enter Your Prompt, and add Your Brand or Region when those fields are relevant. Select Show me the trail. For a comparison, choose Compare models and Run comparison using the offered engines. Review the completed answer and its surfaced sources. This is a question-specific run, separate from the project’s Index scan.
Copy the URLs needed for the review into your own ledger and retain the answer text that motivated each row. Use Rankfor’s public playbooks for broader workflow examples. Do not fill missing evidence with a guessed source simply because that domain often appears elsewhere. A run with no disclosed source remains a useful record of an uncited answer, with that limitation explicit.
How should you classify a page?
Record ownership and editorial type as descriptive fields: your organization, competitor, independent publication, directory or discussion forum. Then assess the actual claim. Ownership alone does not establish accuracy, independence of reporting or the strength of evidence. A brand-owned specifications page may be the best source for a versioned product feature; a review can supply useful experience while being unsuitable evidence of current availability.
For an illustrative example, an answer says Northstar supports offline booking and cites a directory. The directory lists calendar integration but says nothing about offline operation. Mark the claim as unsupported by this citation. Check current product documentation to determine whether the answer is true.
The resulting action might be to clarify an ambiguous official page; it is not evidence that the directory caused the error.
How do you rank domains across answers?
The source worksheet in Chapter 3 of Become the Answer links an answer table to a citation table. Keep an answer ID with each displayed URL, resolved destination, domain and resolution status.
Calculate a domain’s answer share as the number of completed search-enabled answers citing it divided by all completed search-enabled answers in the declared panel. Count the domain once per answer and retain completed answers with no citations in the denominator.
Report failed requests and unresolved links separately. This keeps one response with a long source list from dominating the ranking. The result describes observed citation coverage within that panel.
What should the action list contain?
Separate supported claims, unsupported citations, contradictions and unavailable evidence. Assign a concrete next action: update an owned specification, request a documented correction to a listing, preserve a legitimate critical account, or keep monitoring. Prioritize a material incorrect price over a harmless wording difference.
For later reviews, compare disclosed URLs and claim support under the same question and engine conditions. Source appearance can change without any intervention. Keep missing citations visible and describe the result as observed source coverage. That wording lets the reader assess what the record establishes while avoiding an impossible promise of complete provider provenance.
Steps to follow
Save the answer
Keep exact prompt, engine, date, answer and surfaced URLs together.
Separate claims
Create one evidence row for each material factual assertion.
Check support
Open the cited page, locate its supporting passage and label missing, partial or contradictory support.
Assign a correction
Choose a documented action for a material gap and preserve legitimate criticism.
